Dennis runs away during his wedding, leaving his pregnant wife at the alter.



5 years later, we see how unfit he is, despite always running away.



Dennis encounters Whit, Libby's new boyfriend, for the first time while collecting his son.



After learning Whit is running the next London marathon, Dennis decides to train in order to do the same, to impress Libby.



We see Dennis push himself to his limits, determined for the first time in his life to go through with the marathon.



Believing Dennis has what it takes, Gordon, his best friend, and his landlord set out to train him, whatever it takes.



As the marathon grows nearer, we start to see Whit showing his bad side, and Libby showing signs of still loving Dennis.



While at a party together, Whit and Libby get engaged, crushing Dennis' hopes of ever getting back together with her.



Depressed by recent events, Dennis decides to quit, going back to his old ways.



His son, Jake, briefly runs away, and Dennis sets out to find him, when he does, the discussion that follows makes him realise that he can't just run away whenever something goes wrong.



Once again determined to finish the marathon, he runs alongside Whit, who shames him for ever running away in the first place, and losing her at their wedding.



Deciding to play dirty, Whit trips Dennis, but ends up falling over him himself, injuring them both and being told they can't finish.



With Whit rushed off to hospital, Dennis stays determined, and with the help of Gordon and his landlord, set out to finish the marathon.



As Dennis continues to run, he starts gathering a lot of attention, including the news, who, while Libbie and Whit are watching, show the replay of Whit tripping Dennis, this being the last straw and Libbie cancelling the engagement and leaving with Jake to meet Dennis.



Even after several setbacks, and collapsing near the finish line, seeing Libby and Jake at the finish line waiting for him gives him the last bit of energy he needs, and with hours of limping the marathon, finally finishes.



With the marathon over, and Whit out of the picture, Dennis and Libby start to rebuild their past relationship.
